Chief Minister Manik Saha Inaugurates ₹1.49 Crore Ranjitnagar Water Body Beautification Project in Agartala
Agartala, Tripura: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha inaugurated the newly completed beautification project of the Ranjitnagar water body under Ward No. 14 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). The project was completed at an estimated cost of ₹1.49 crore and aims to improve the urban environment, promote water conservation and enhance the beauty of the city.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that Tripura was witnessing development across several sectors, including connectivity, education, sports and agriculture. He emphasised that the state government was focusing not only on infrastructure development but also on reforms, the restoration of cultural heritage and the improvement of people’s quality of life.
Dr. Saha stated that several water bodies across the AMC area were being restored and beautified to create a cleaner, healthier and more attractive urban environment. He stressed that proper planning and effective implementation were essential for serving the needs of local communities. According to him, these initiatives were also helping establish sustainable arrangements for water conservation.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to improve connectivity, the Chief Minister said that a special initiative had been undertaken to introduce the Vande Bharat Express from Agartala. He also noted that a multi-level parking facility had already been constructed at the Old Motorstand to address traffic congestion in the city. Plans were also underway to construct another flyover and a ring road to further ease traffic movement.
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment and youth entrepreneurship in the state’s development. He said that women were being connected with self-help groups and provided with skill development opportunities to help them become financially independent. Young people were also receiving support to establish start-ups and businesses based on locally available raw materials. He stated that approximately 2.5 lakh entrepreneurs had established their own businesses in Tripura.
Referring to the state’s economic progress, Dr. Saha said that the growth of Tripura’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) reflected improvements in its economic performance. He noted that the state ranked second among the northeastern states in this regard. He also stressed the importance of maintaining peace, harmony and stability to ensure continued development.
Speaking as a special guest, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder said that the beautification of the Ranjitnagar water body had fulfilled a long-standing demand of local residents. He added that the AMC was committed to addressing the needs of the people of Agartala and improving civic amenities throughout the city.
Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta and AMC Central Zone Chairman Ratna Datta attended the programme as guests of honour. AMC Commissioner Saju Vaheed A delivered the welcome address, while Ward No. 14 Corporator Snigdha Das Dey proposed the vote of thanks.
During the programme, a commemorative memento was presented to the Chief Minister on behalf of Sanjog Club and local residents. A documentary showcasing the Ranjitnagar water body beautification project was also screened.
The project marks another step towards improving Agartala’s urban infrastructure, restoring water bodies and creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly city for residents.
